A thoughtful approach to sustainable change

Our Approach

Inspired by the values of Christ, brought to life by our passionate partners.

Our thorough, invitation-only selection process and relationship-focused approach ensures the grants we award are used effectively and efficiently. We're not in the business of micro-managing; we work hard to invest wisely in fruitful partnerships that bring glory to God.

For us, it's not just about making an immediate difference. It's about investing strategically for lasting change.

Grant making

Our guidelines

The McCoy Family Foundation is committed to honoring our founders’ legacy of generosity. We focus our grant making in a way that honors their intent and operates in alignment with our mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.

We focus our grant making in the following impact areas:
  • Vulnerable children and families
  • Healthcare and medical missions
  • Blind or visually impaired
  • Addictions and recovery
  • Spiritual growth and outreach

Legacy grants support non-profit organizations that held special meaning to the founders. Examples include Holt International Children’s Services (the agency through which Michele was adopted), the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (the hospital that saved Glenn’s eyesight).  These organizations may be awarded support annually without a formal application process. However, they are subject to periodic review to ensure that they are in good standing and continue to meet best practices.

Grant Types

We award the following types of grants:

Legacy grants

Discretionary grants

next generation grants

Discretionary grants must be consistent with the mission, vision, values, and funding priorities of the Foundation. Discretionary grants are not subject to the normal due diligence review or reporting processes.

A "Next Generation Grant" is a grantmaking program designed to involve the children of current board members in the foundation's philanthropic activities. Our process

How it works

From first conversation to final report, we work closely with each recipient to make sure they feel supported and empowered to execute their grant vision. Grant applications are accepted by invitation only.

Recipient accountability

ongoing partnership

At the moment, we have a closed, invitation-only process; this means if we feel you may be a good fit for a grant, we will reach out to you. We review proposals from organizations that we invite to apply.

CaN I apply for a grant?

No! In accordance with our founders’ wishes, approximately 75% of the annual distribution requirement will be granted to Church of Christ affiliated ministries and 25% will be allocated to other charitable work that also promotes our funding priorities.

Frequently asked questions

We typically provide grants for one year, with the possibility of annual renewal for extended periods. We may also consider multiple year grants when the success of a program is dependent on a longer-term commitment (e.g., multi-year construction of a hospital).
